“HERZ STICHT” is the story of a patchwork family, passing on feelings of joy and heartache over four generations in Austria and Germany. Through combining Observational Cinema, archival footage and interviews, Michaela Resch dives into an intimate quest of exploring reoccurring separations and strategies of action and (mis)communication in each of her family’s generation. The 98 years old Ernestine leads us through the film that takes place in Carinthia, Vienna, Bonn and Berlin. Resch’s relatives reflect their personal family histories, their emotions and experiences, revealing the complexities of a family system and its members. “HERZ STICHT” opens up a sensitive discussion about memories, sense of belonging and the tension between family ideals and actual family life.

STANCE BEFORE OPINION (Eng. title)
“HALTUNG VOR MEINUNG” reflects on the political onlinemovement #immernochbesseralsstrache (#stillbetterthanstrache) two years after its first launch. During Austrian regional and municipal council elections in 2015, a group of friends took action to fight against the FPÖ, a rightwing populist party. The film gives an insight into the activists’ motivations and discusses questions of freedom of speech, sense of community and one’s role in a democracy.
